Coach Sackey: “We need more Hockey Stadia”
Senior National Hockey team’s coach, Winfred Sackey is calling on government and respective corporate entities to as well support the Ghana Hockey Association.
According to him, the association needs more Hockey stadia to improve and promote the game-type in Ghana.
“Since the country is not having many hockey pitches; it is great worry for the association and persons who have interest to learn how to play the game. It discourages people living outside Accra to even show interest in the game since they have to travel all the way to Accra to learn and train.
“With just Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium in Accra near the popular lorry park known as Tema Station serving as the only active pitch in Ghana; we are urging the government and corporate entities to come to our rescue and build more pitches for us,” Coach Socket said in an interview with amalarbieafrica.com’s sports reporter.
Adding, “Hockey pitches should be in our Universities, Colleges and even in our Senior High Schools to help improve and promote and as well attract the young ones who has interest in the game to have a place to train.
The Ghana Hockey Association, which was initially running on its own is currently under direct control of the Sports Ministry.
Hockey is a family of sports in which two teams play against each other by trying to maneuver a ball or a puck into the opponent’s goal using a hockey stick.
