The African E-News

‘Guru Guru’ is a very daring original musical project by West African Jazz Fusion guitarist, Composer, Educator and Producer Constant Boty reminding himself in his own words of ‘the sights, influences, tastes and feelings of my childhood all molded together and translated into sounds’. Boty had been working on this album since 2011 with his band comprising PK Ambrose on Bass and Prince Larbi ”Drummerholic” on percussions as well as guests: Ivorian ace percussionist Oswald Kouame and the lead vocals; Emmanuel Adjei on flugelhorn and Ofie Kodjoe doing the backing vocals. It was revised in June 2015 with the band, however to re-vitalize the songs and give them a more lively and contemporary appeal, Vocalist Faat was asked to do some additional vocals on all the songs to produce the Guru Guru final project album.

The album has so far had an international audience around the world from icons such as Jazz Journalist Russ Davis host of VOA Moja Radio, who is a longtime friend of Constant Boty, he had the chance to be the first to listen to ’Guru Guru’’ and declared his thoughts ‘Yes indeed Guru Guru was based on presenting a new voice of West African Jazz, yet, there is much more to come from the West African musical patrimony…..’

All the compliments from world renowned musicians absolutely confirm the brilliant musical talent of Boty for his strong and rich sense of melodic and harmonic understanding. Boty says ‘Guru Guru is really my most intimate musical expression’. He explains that he truly wanted to bring out his inmost visions as an African Man who was born and raised in the pure African traditions and connecting with the mosaic of European communities in West African Cities.

“Boty’s “Guru Guru” album launch is celebrated as day one of the Scratch Universal Entertainment AFRO JAZZ FESTIVAL in association with Mevicon Music. There will be special guests from Ghana such as Jazz Piano Master and Music Educator Victor Dey Jr., Blues advocate Kweku Poku and Ace vocalist/Radio/TV personality, the fabulous Ofie Kodjoe as a special guest of honor. Also appearing will be world renowned New York based Jazz Pianist, Grammy Award nominee Benito Gonzalez and the legendary Drums Master based in the U.S. Okyerema Asante.

The launch will take place this Friday September 18, at the new Irish Pub in East Legon at 7.00 pm. It promises to be an outstanding event that his fans, friends and colleagues are eagerly awaiting.
